Studies
The study programmes of the Department of Computing at the University of Latvia’s Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology are recognised by Latvian employers and European education experts and have been awarded the European Quality Label. As a result, the University of Latvia has become a leading university in the Baltic region in terms of education, research, and the preparation of specialists for the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, maintaining or achieving international recognition in several fields.

Research
The Department of Computing conducts research in computer science. The mission of the University of Latvia in supporting the development of the computing field is to:
prepare highly qualified, internationally competitive specialists for practical work in companies and public institutions, capable not only of designing and developing complex information systems, but also of managing projects and independently acquiring new technologies in a rapidly changing environment across the full spectrum of computing;
provide the computing sector with academically educated specialists trained for scientific work, who are able to carry out research in computer science in Latvia and serve as experts in the evaluation of new technologies and systems.
The Department of Computing consists of five research groups and units supporting studies and research.
