FST Student council

The Student Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology consists of 75 members - 30 from the Department of Computer Science, 25 from the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry, 20 from the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences.
Although we come from different fields, we have a common goal - together with activists, we devote a significant amount of energy to preserving the traditions of the faculty and organizing various events. For example, every year we unite in sports activities in the FST sports games "Sajūgs". However, social life is not our only focus - we are also actively involved in improving the study process and informing students. To train to inform other students and convince them to get involved in the student self-government, we also organize the "New Student Seminar". To unite the new first-year students with their mentors, we also organize the "Mentor Evening", which is open to everyone.
Our ideas are heard and turned into real change, proving that the student voice matters and has power!
Everyone is welcome to visit us in one of our departments to talk about their current issues, get help or support in academic matters and problem solving, make suggestions or complaints about the work of the Student Union or just have a cup of tea and spend time in a pleasant company.

Who's marching, who's singing? Computists are coding!
But we not only code, we also actively participate in student life!
You can get involved in the Computer Science Students' Council by:
• In the direction of cooperation, attracting supporters for events
• In the academic direction, solving issues relevant to students
• Communication direction, ensuring communication between different layers of the UL
• In the direction of culture and sport, by organizing extracurricular activities
• International direction, representing the interests of international students
Some of the traditions of the Computer Science Student Council are "Sējiens" in August – an event with the aim of introducing new first-year students to each other and to the study environment, "Computer Science Days" – a week filled with various events to mark the birthday of the now former Faculty of Computer Science and not so former Computer Science students and teaching staff, as well as almost monthly game nights where it is possible to spend time in a peaceful atmosphere in the company of computer scientists and other students. Students are given the opportunity to get involved in charity events, for example, in cooperation with the cat center "Remi", "Paws Week" was created, as well as to help in the cybersecurity event "Mārtiņa-CTF" and the game development event "Jūlijas-JAM".
Come to the student council!

Fizmati also have a rich cultural history that anyone can help implement! The Fizmati SP organizes both its own events and helps organize FST SC events. Fizmati have many events a year, but these four are the most important:
“Baldone”. First-year students’ introduction and team-building camp just before the start of studies.
"Initiation" - the place where first-year students become real Fizmati.
"Fizmatdienas" – the magnum opus of the Physicists and Mathematicians. "Fizmatdienas" are still the biggest and most important annual celebration for the Physicists and Mathematicians. We fill the Old Town with songs and slogans during the Parade. We meet well-known and interesting Physicists and Mathematicians during the Personality Evening. We sharpen our minds and get erudite while fighting for the first place in the "ČŅP".
"Boat trip" - the culmination of Fizmatdienas. Every year it gathers 300 people who spend 3 days on a boat and relax from everyday life.
We are looking forward to seeing all of you activists. You can find the general meetings and current information on our instagram: @fizmati_lu.

Geographer traditions
The Geo-Mafia includes all former students and graduates of the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences who have studied in the following study programmes: geography, geology, environmental science, geoinformatics and cultural heritage research and protection. For simplicity and brevity of the term, the term "Geographer" is used in certain cases to denote not only students of geography, but also students of other study programmes mentioned above.
PRE-ARISTOTELIAN
Pre-Aristoteles is the first event where the new academic year Geographer first-year students gather to get to know each other, make friends and get contacts outside their program. The new geographers, geologists, environmentalists, cultural environmentalists and geomaticians get to know nature and each other by participating in various bonding adventures.
LODRONĪŠI
In the beginning of autumn, the sports-loving geographers go to Lodes Muiža, where they play football, volleyball, dodgeball and many other exciting activities.
REGISTRATION
The registration is an event organized only by first-year students. This event is special because it involves all first-year students of the Geography study program. The forces are combined to find suitable premises, invite musicians, organize joint meetings, carry out other necessary organizational activities and organize an unforgettable event for senior students.
GEODAYS
During Geodays, the birthday of the former Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences is celebrated. During the week, there are exciting events such as photo orienteering, Geobasketball evening, story evening, erudition evening and at the end of the week - Geoball. During the week, boredom is repelled by Geonews (Geodays newspaper), photo contest Big Didriķis and meme contest Golden memčiks.
GEORALLY
Georally is a four-day boat trip that takes place twice a year, in October and April. It may sound a bit extreme, but a Geographer is an adventurer, and there will be no shortage of adventures in this event. Fun events in the camps, funny incidents on the river and beautiful views, outside of everyday duties and worries, leave a desire to participate in the next Georally.
