Seven departments of the Faculty of Science and Technology offers a broad spectrum of study and research opportunities. Each department is defined by its own academic programmes—ranging from short-cycle and bachelor's studies to master's and doctoral levels. This structure ensures deep specialization and supports the pursuit of diverse scientific interests, from programming and IT solutions to natural resource exploration and environmental protection.

The faculty's departments host numerous laboratories and research centres. The Department of Computer Science stands out with its programmes in programming and network administration, its laboratories, and the Quantum Computing Centre—highlighting a strong technological focus and an innovative approach to studies. Meanwhile, the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, and Optometry and Vision Science provide students with both fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern research methods, particularly in experimental and medical physics. The Departments of Geography and Geology offers in-depth research into Earth's structure, climatic and geological processes, while the Department of Environmental Science addresses pressing issues of human–nature interaction, sustainable resource use, and environmental problem-solving.

Research activities of each department are grounded in close collaboration with national institutions, industry partners, and international networks. This enables students to engage in real-world projects during their studies and build professional connections—ensuring comprehensive preparation for a competitive career both in Latvia and internationally. The faculty’s extensive network of laboratories, academic chairs, and research centres fosters the development of innovative knowledge and promotes an interdisciplinary approach. As a result, the faculty has become a driving force in the advancement of science and technology, both nationally and beyond.
