For more than 20 years, physicists and optometrists from the University of Latvia (UL), in close cooperation with the UL Institute of Solid State Physics, have successfully organized the student and early-career scientist conference “Developments in Optics and Communications.” This year, the conference will take place from July 1 to July 3 – you are warmly invited to apply and participate!

The conference “Developments in Optics and Communications” (DOC) will be held at the UL House of Science (Jelgavas Street 3) from July 1 to July 3, bringing together students, researchers, and professionals in the fields of optics and photonics. For the first time, it will be organized in collaboration with the annual Polish young scientists’ conference “OptoMeeting” (OPTO). DOC x OPTO 2026 will serve as a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, presenting the latest research, and fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

The conference topics include laser physics, spectroscopy, optical materials and phenomena, vision science, biophotonics, and communication technologies. The following internationally recognized researchers and industry representatives have already confirmed their participation:

  • Valeria Rodriguez-Fajardo, Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Colombia)
  • Jasleen K. Jolly, University of Oxford (United Kingdom)
  • Benjamin Cromey, BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems (USA)
  • Shadab Dabagh, UL Institute of Solid State Physics (Latvia)
  • David Rogers, University of Technology Sydney (Australia)

To present your research at DOC x OPTO 2026, submit your abstract by April 30, 2026. More information about the conference is available at: www.docriga.lv

The conference organizers would like to thank all supporters and sponsors – SPIE, Optica, the UL Student Council, the UL Institute of Solid State Physics, the UL Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technology, the University of Warsaw, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, as well as the SWEB project.
