FST INM Leading Researcher Mihails Birjukovs will present the results of my research visit to Prof. Hideki Murakawa's group at Kobe Graduate School of Engineering, where we collaborated on ultrasound computed tomography (UCT) for bubble flow in liquid metal. I got an in-depth hands-on introduction to ultrasound computed tomography (UCT), and learned the theoretical/implementation foundations, as well as performed experiments with bubble flow in water and metal. In return, I was able to fully automate the UCT data analysis pipeline and develop image analysis algorithms for bubble segmentation from UCT back-projection images and error estimation, in addition to methods for artifact mitigation and false-positive elimination. In the long-term, my plan is to adopt UCT at INM and University of Latvia, since it is one of the most prospective methods for phase field diagnostics for MHD bubble flow.
