Ph.D, Adjunct Professor, Leading Research Scientist Petrozavodsk State University, Institute of Mathematics and Information Technology, Department of Computer Science The course makes introduction to applying the Ambient Intelligence (AmI) methods in the emerging case of Internet of Things (IoT). Various inter-disciplinary domains are selected for studying such applications in topical examples. The shared knowledge is based on IoT-related research and development activity performed in Petrozavodsk State University. We review the new opportunities, challenges, and available technologies for AmI applications in IoT environments, first of all, exploiting the computational potential of the growing multitude of Internet edge devices. Several reference examples for AmI applications in IoT environments are considered (from the domains of cultural heritage and e-Tourism, collaborative work environments, mobile healthcare, Industrial Internet). We study selected methods for development of such reference examples, focusing on: (1) methods of fog computing to support participation of local and remote devices in cooperative service construction and delivery and (2) semantic methods of data mining for constructing a recommendation service based on ranking the information shared in the IoT environment.
