Call for Participation: “Shadow Day 2026”

The University of Latvia invites all employees to take part in this year’s Shadow Day, which will take place on 1 April 2026. This initiative offers an excellent opportunity to highlight the importance of your work, share your professional experience, and inspire pupils who are beginning to explore their future career paths.

Shadow Day allows young people to gain insight into different professions, observe real working environments, and learn about daily responsibilities. For shadow hosts, it is a chance to promote their profession, strengthen public understanding of their field, and proudly showcase the meaningful work carried out every day.

How to Apply

At the University’s faculties, the registration of employees (shadow hosts) is coordinated by the respective public relations specialists.
At the Faculty of Science and Technology, applications are accepted by Santa Mūrniece, Public Relations Specialist, until 26 February (inclusive): santa.murniece@lu.lv 

When applying, please provide the following information:

  • Profession

  • Position

  • Vacancy description
    (Please describe what the pupil will be able to observe and experience during Shadow Day, the main responsibilities or areas of work, working conditions, any specific requirements for participants, or other criteria you will consider when selecting shadowers.)

  • Number of shadowers
    (Maximum allowed by the programme: 4)

  • Minimum age of the shadower
    (The youngest selectable group is pupils from grade 3)

Starting from 27 February, pupils will be able to apply for vacancies via www.enudiena.lv.

About Shadow Day

Shadow Day in Latvia is organised by Junior Achievement Latvia. It is an internationally recognised career education programme that provides pupils with practical and comprehensive insight into various professions. Shadow Day has been held in Latvia since 2001, and each year more than 35,000 pupils participate, exploring different career paths and receiving valuable guidance for their future.

The programme successfully integrates career education into the school curriculum, encouraging young people to think about their future and understand the expectations of the labour market. By fostering cooperation between schools, society, and workplaces, Shadow Day supports young people in their transition into professional life.
