On 26 November, the Director of the RIKEN Europe Office, Dr. Toshiyasu Ichioka, visited the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia to discuss opportunities for scientific cooperation together with the University’s leadership and the Latvian Council of Science.

During the visit, he met with the Vice-Rector for Science of the University of Latvia, Guntars Kitenbergs, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology  Aigars Ekers, Acting Vice-Dean for Science Sandris Lācis, the Vice-Dean for Science of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences Vita Rovīte, as well as the Director of the Latvian Council of Science Lauma Muižniece. The meeting was also attended by the directors of LU scientific institutes and research centres, along with other interested participants.

The meeting featured presentations of the scientific achievements and research directions of both faculties, followed by a roundtable discussion on future cooperation opportunities.

At the conclusion of the visit, the RIKEN Director toured laboratories of Faculty of Science and Technology, where he learned about their research activities, ongoing projects, and future plans. Possible areas of collaboration were discussed.
