Professor Maciej J. Nowak guest lecture "Spatial planning systems of Central and Eastern European countries" will take place at the University of Latvia, Jelgavas Street 1, Room 324./325., on 5 March at 12.30.

The lecture will present the key features of the spatial planning systems of Central and Eastern European countries. This will include a characterisation of the common genesis (post-communist spatial planning conditions) and changes in spatial planning law from the 1990s to the present. Key similarities and differences regarding key instruments (spatial plans and strategies) as well as key challenges to planning practice will be identified. The above will be related to discussions on spatial planning in Europe. At the same time, methods related to the comparison of different state spatial planning systems will be discussed.

 

Dr. Maciej J. Nowak, Prof. ZUT - Professor at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin,, Head of the Department of Real Estate Legal Counsel, member of two committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences and numerous international and national scientific associations. Author of several hundred scientific publications, including in recognised international publications. He undertakes scientific cooperation with authors from Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. His subject of interest is the role of law in spatial planning and methodology of comparisons of spatial planning systems.
