On October 28, 2025, the government approved the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) to award the Cabinet of Ministers Certificate of Recognition to 27 scientists and education professionals for their significant contributions to the development of science and education in Latvia. We are proud to announce that among the recipients is Professor Jānis Spīgulis from the University of Latvia (UL), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST)!

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to educating young scientists in the field of biophotonics and for promoting the visibility of the University of Latvia and Latvia internationally, the Cabinet of Ministers Certificate of Recognition has been awarded to Professor Jānis Spīgulis, Head of the Biophotonics Laboratory at the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy (IAPS), UL FPMO Department of Physics, academician of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, and Doctor of Physics habil.

The Cabinet of Ministers Certificate of Recognition is awarded to individuals as a formal expression of the government’s appreciation for exceptional achievements in the fields of national economy, science, education, health, environmental protection, public administration, culture, sports, and national defense.
